Flowering Dogwood
This small tree grows about 30 feet tall. Its trunk usually isn't more than eight inches wide. The trunk is also short, with many spreading branches. Flowering Dogwoods are a very
common understory tree, meaning it grows beneath other taller trees. They
generally grow underneath oaks, red maples and yellow poplars. The flowering
dogwood provides cover for many forest animals. This tree relies on bees, butterflies
and other insects to pollinate it.
